Signs You May Need a Root Canal Treatment

Several symptoms may indicate the need for a root canal, including:

The Root Canal Process

Root canal treatment involves removing the infected pulp (nerve) from the tooth and sealing the root canals to prevent reinfection.

The procedure typically includes these steps:

Initial Preparation: After anesthetizing the tooth, we will create an opening in the crown to access the pulp chamber.
Nerve Tissue Removal: The infected nerve tissue is carefully removed from the pulp chamber and each individual root.
Cleaning and Shaping: The root canal system is thoroughly cleaned, shaped, and prepared for filling.
Filling with Gutta Percha: Once cleaned, the root canal is filled with gutta percha, and a sealer is applied to ensure the space is sealed.

Success & Aftercare

Root canal treatment boasts a high success rate, with many teeth being saved through this procedure.

In some cases, the treatment may require multiple visits. If this is necessary, a temporary filling will be placed to protect the tooth until your next appointment. During your return visit, we will remove the temporary filling, re-clean the root canal system, and place the gutta percha.

After the root canal treatment, a permanent filling is placed. If a significant tooth structure was removed during the procedure, we may recommend placing a crown to prevent further fractures.

After treatment, the crown or filling placed will blend seamlessly with your natural teeth, making it difficult for others to notice that you had a root canal.
